Instructions
Preheat the oven according to package instructions for the chocolate cake mix. Prepare and bake the cake in a 9x13-inch baking pan as directed. Allow it to cool completely.
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the instant chocolate pudding mix and milk until smooth. Let it thicken for about 5 minutes.
In another bowl, beat the softened cream cheese with the powdered sugar until smooth and creamy. Fold in the whipped topping gently until well incorporated.
Once the cake is cool, crumble it into small pieces. In a large bowl, mix half of the crumbled cake with the pudding mixture until combined.
In clear plastic cups or small jars, add a layer of the chocolate cake and pudding mixture to the bottom. Follow with a layer of the cream cheese mixture on top. Repeat the layers until the cups are filled, finishing with the pudding mixture.
Sprinkle the crushed Oreo cookies generously on top of the final layer to create the dirt look.
Insert the gummy worms into the dirt and use the mini tombstone candies to make them look like gravestones.
For best results, refrigerate the dessert cups for at least 2 hours before serving to let all flavors meld together.
Notes
Arrange the cups on a spooky tray and add a few plastic spider decorations around them for an extra Halloween touch. Consider using dark-colored napkins for a themed contrast!
